Intercultural Communication in Professional Life

This offering addresses how to adapt one’s communication, manage misunderstandings, and sustain sound working relationships in diverse teams, client relationships, and international collaboration.

One country does not mean one culture. Regional, linguistic, religious, professional, and personal differences exist alongside the habits and hierarchies of organizations, departments, and teams. The work helps participants recognize these overlapping influences without relying on fixed assumptions about national behavior.

Areas of study include spoken and written language, tone, silence, gesture, scheduling, eye contact, use of space, meeting conduct, and the expression of agreement or disagreement. Workplace cases, correspondence, and meeting scenarios provide opportunities to examine misunderstandings, ask clarifying questions, and adapt a response.

Participants learn to distinguish what they have observed from what they have assumed, supporting clearer communication and more thoughtful working relationships.
